Charlie's Story

Charlie's Story by Andrea S. I would like to share the birth story of my 6th child, Charlie. Charlie's birth story actually begins 7 weeks before he was even concieved. I was very excited to learn in late Sept. of last year that I was pregnant with my 5th child. Unfortunately, I was equally devastated when I lost this baby only 8 weeks into the pregnancy. My emotions were on a perpetual roller coaster for several weeks following the loss. Our family had been rocked with the truth of mortality and I was not sure I ever wanted to go through a pregnancy ever again. As a matter of fact my husband and I decided that we would not try again. It wasn't until January when the telltale signs of preganancy became evident that we realized God had stepped in and given us another blessing. After several weeks of walking on eggshells, fearful of losing this baby, we were finally able to relax and enjoy the pregnancy. Just as everything seemed to be going well, I went into preterm labor at 31 weeks. Again we were on eggshells praying that the baby would not come too soon. Thankfully, with medications, we were able to control the contractions and I maintained the pregnancy for another 7 weeks. It was during this time of complete bedrest that I went on a virtual shopping spree via the internet. After extensive research I decided that I would use cloth diapers for this new baby after having used disposables for my first four babies. Charlie was born on Aug. 25th via a scheduled C-section. The surgery was quick and Charlie was born a healthy 7lbs 12oz. I will never forget his soft, wet skin as his little cheek was pressed up to mine. After holding him and cuddling him for the first time my thoughts drifted back to the little one that I had lost. I wondered if Charlie had passed by the little soul of my lost baby on his way to us. As I gaze into Charlie's eyes I see not only his own personality shining through, but I also feel that the baby that I never saw is present in some way. Thank you for letting me share my story, Andrea
